Ceramic tiles and modern style
07jule
Ceramic tile is durable and resistant to rainfall, its elegant and modern forms give the roofs clear lines and modern style.
Such natural components as clay, fire and water - were the basis for the manufacture of ceramic tiles for thousands of years. Ceramics - is one of the most popular building materials, as before, and today. Ceramic tiles can be used for both new construction and roof renovations.
Most of the roofing materials, which are commonly called roofing tiles, are not tiles in the technical sense. For real roofing tiles you need natural materials created by nature itself, only in this case we can talk about the naturalness of the material and its origin. To natural roofing materials, we must also include:
roof slate,
wood shingles,
and, of course, everything known in Ukraine - a reed roof.
On the natural origin of modern roofing materials, we can not speak in the full sense. In the production of concrete shingles, bituminous shingles, roofing from copper, titanium-zinc, etc., natural components created by man are used.
Ceramic tiles - who invented it?
The history of ceramic tiles, utensils made of clay and other clay products is very ancient, this is confirmed by archaeologists, but who invented the tile, it is hardly possible to answer. Thus, there are different sources of when and in what region of the earth people began to produce and use tiles. According to the Greek writer Pindar, the invention of tiles is attributed to the Corinthians in the period around 450 BC, other sources say that the Egyptians and Greeks were engaged in making tiles from around 2000 BC, there is evidence that the Babylonians used such bricks already 3000 BC.
For centuries, if not millennia, the production of ceramic tiles was purely manual labor.
In the past, the production of clay tiles has been used by many farmers as additional earnings to overcome the long winter months, without any other sources of income. At this time it was popular to make of handmade tiles, the so-called solar bricks: the last brick, which was made in one day, designating masters with ornament, year or text.
At first the tile was so expensive that it could only be used for public buildings, on the roofs of houses of wealthy citizens or nobles. The beginning of industrialization and the invention of the steam engine marked the beginning of mass production of shingles.
Color, shape and design
The production of tile practically did not change, despite industrialization. Even today, a distinction is made between the individual stages of production: the preparation and mixing of different clay varieties, processing, adjusting the moisture content, molding, drying, the first stage of quality control, firing and finally, the final final quality control.
The color of the shingles is determined by the source material and finish. Thus, there are three modern types of ceramic tile coating:
Natural red color, displays the natural color of clay, depending on the location of the quarry and the depth of extraction. The natural color of the shingles can range from light to dark red tones.
Embossed tiles, displays any color, which is due to mineral additives, which are applied to the surface of the shingles before baking. Depending on the concentration and composition of the natural mixture, you can achieve any color tiles - brown, black, copper, green, white and even silver.
Glazed tiles reflect on their surface a glass glaze that forms after the application of minerals to the surface of the ceramic tile, which form after firing a thin glass coating, giving the natural tile the refinement and nobility.
Since the production of ordinary natural tiles occurs at a temperature of about 1000 degrees, and high-quality tiles are produced at an even higher temperature of 1200 degrees, ceramic roofing tiles become particularly resistant to weathering. Roofing from high-quality ceramic tiles often has strength or as we say - a service life of 80 to 100 years.
Despite all the technical features of production, the service life of the roofing from ceramic tiles can vary depending on circumstances that do not depend on the quality of the shingles themselves. For example - unfavorable weather or environmental conditions, a polluted environment leads to the fact that the roofing material loses its technical properties faster, even the appearance of moss on the shingles - shortens its service life.
However, good maintenance can prolong the life of the roof and secure the entire structure. It is important that the damaged areas after the storm or hurricane are immediately repaired and replaced, since delay will lead to even greater damage.
If the original proIf the original production of ceramic tiles was, the production process was broken or the technical norms were not observed, the tile would become unusable in the near future.
Therefore, when selecting ceramic tiles, special attention should be paid to the quality and positive feedback on the factories that produce ceramic tiles, and also pay special attention to warranty obligations and who is the guarantor. We all know that high-quality materials can not be cheap.
Buy ceramic tiles and high-quality components for it, such as waterproofing membranes, vapor barrier films, clamps, ventilation belts, belts, snowshoes, etc. - it's half the battle, the second half is to find high-quality craftsmen with extensive experience in laying ceramic tiles, which will be able to carry out the correct installation and not spoil the material.
Only with these simple rules, your roof will be a long time your safe hiding place.
